Since 2003 Medicare has issued competitive bidding for Durable Medical Equipment companies in certain areas around the United States. Currently large metropolitan areas are required as of July 1,2013 to ONLY use DME companies that "won" the bids. What this means for patients and families is that they have no choice for their DME provider... What is means for small businesses is that we need to order DME from several different sources. A walker from New York, and bed from Pennsylvania, and diabetic supplies from Florida. It also means that small businesses that have been supplying equipment for YEARS are going out of business because of this new measure. Congress overturned a veto a few weeks ago allowing the measure to take place. We need to stop this measure from moving forward.
