Guns cause 30,000 deaths a year, yet none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the CDC may be used to advocate or promote gun control, thus affectively ending the ability of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to study gun violence and death. This mandate by Congress occurred in 1996. The same language was added to funding bills for NIH and all other DHHS agencies in 2011. In 2003 The Tiahart Ammendment was passed to prevent ATF from spending any money to release any crime gun trace data or multiple sales data requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
I am advocating a repeal of all these measures so the public can benefit from research done by government funded agencies to deal with the epidemic of gun deaths and violence in America.
