Overturn NC House Bill 2- A law that directly violates federal legislature

Created by T.S. on March 25, 2016

On Wednesday March 23rd, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signed House Bill 2. North Carolina legislators had only five minutes to review the bill before they were asked to cast their vote. This Bill is in direct violation of various federal mandates, including Title IX - a mandate protecting against any form of gender bias in educational settings.

This law discriminates against various marginalized communities (Veterans of the US Armed Forces, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and gender nonconforming people), and it directly impacts individuals from lower socioeconomic statuses due to the removal of minimum wage protections from local governments.

This law removes 70 years of progress for civil rights in the United States as one of the most discriminatory laws of this millennium.
