Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. ___ (2010), (Docket No. 08-205), is a US constitutional law case. The United States Supreme Court held that the First Amendment prohibits the government from restricting political independent expenditures by corporations, associations, or labor unions. This is flawed reasoning in terms of a democratic system of government because said organizations are not people, they are organizations of people. An organizations contributions to political campaigns may not represent the interests of their members and employees and therefore do not represent the will of the people. Citizens United provides an easy path to corruption and the erosion of democracy.
