Paid leave should be a US legal standard that is comparable to other advanced economies

The Center for Economic and Policy Research reports that the United States is the only nation among advanced economies that does not provide a legal guarantee of paid leave. Even, New Zealand and Australia ensure 30 and 28 days of paid leave respectively. Canada stipulates 19 paid days off. Due to technology and unspoken pressures from the US business culture, many employees work well beyond the typical 40-50hr work week. One research indicates that even when employees take vacation, more than half stay plugged in, responding to work emails and checking in at the office. Our society is becoming high stress and the trickle down affect is impacting our children. Vacations have been linked to improved productivity and job performance, as well as increased well-being. It is time for change!
