Paint Texas White: Begin albedo increase projects to curb climate change

Created by D.C. on March 16, 2016

Climate change is real. This month (March, 2016) marks the third month in a row with record high temperatures. This is caused by a combination of issues, including the release of carbon in the atmosphere by our industry, the deforestation of large parts of the world and by the decreasing of our albedo - the amount of our surface is reflective.

As anyone who has walked on asphalt after the sun has shone on it for most of the day can know, black or dark colored surfaces absorb more heat than lightly colored ones - this remains true in nature, and the vanishing ice caps increases the speed of climate change.

One way to curb this change is simple: Increase the albedo of our planet by making more of it lighter colored. It is cheap, can employ thousands, and will help slow climate change.
