According to the Dept. of Labor Paramedics, EMT's, Firefighter’s and Law Enforcement Officers are placed in a different category when it comes to overtime pay. All working Americans receive 1.5 times their rate of pay for overtime but Public Safety doesn't. We receive what is called fluctuating overtime which is calculated at a lower rate of pay and the more hours we work in a week the less we make. They try to say we make half of our hourly rate of pay for our overtime but when there are some cases it works out to be about $3.36/hr. Public Safety is out here to protect the citizens in our community so we should be making the same rate of pay as everyone else. 1.5 times our hourly rate is what everyone else makes and that is what public safety should also receive.
