There are thousands of people wasting their lives in federal and state prisons because they were convicted of possessing marijuana with the intention of distributing or selling it. Since 2 states make it legal to use marijuana for recreational purposes, and many others make it legal to use it for medicinal purposes, it does not serve society's interests to continue to persecute people for activities which are now legal in so many states. It costs too much money to continue to incarcerate these people. Finally, incarceration for a felony destroys people's personal lives as well as their financial lives. This felony should be eliminated from their records for the sake of justice, fairness and an unfair burden on the taxpayers, who must pay for all related expenses.
