The president has the power to pardon anyone, and while our president jokes about smoking pot, tens of thousands of lives are ruined in the name of the War on Drugs. Drug laws are racist and violent in practice, nearly single-handedly fund organized crime, violate our most basic human right to self ownership, perpetuate even worse crime, destroy lives, are a complete waste of law enforcement resources, are wildly ineffective, make drugs more dangerous and more addictive on the black market, and turn peaceful people into criminals. Addiction needs treatment, not prison.
