Non-violent drug offenders make up a mind-boggling 42% of the U.S. Federal Prison Population.
Subjecting non-violent offenders to prison sentences is both more costly and less effective than drug rehabilitation programs.
In a time when we are experiencing massive cuts to Federal programs because of sequestration, and the concern over the Federal deficit continues, this is an area where continuing to spend money is not in the best interest of the nation.
We petition the Obama Administration to review the cases of all non-violent drug offenders, and release all who do not pose a specific danger to society.
