According to the op-ed piece, ‘The Fight Over Medical Marijuana’, which appeared in the New York Times on November 8th, 2012, Chris Williams farmed medical marijuana in compliance with Montana law after that state legalized medical marijuana. While multiple states have now legalized marijuana's use to varying degrees and the Obama administration has chosen to selectively enforced federal laws regarding the substance, Mr Williams faces what is likely to be the remainder of his life in prison -- an 80 year minimum sentence.
In contrast, states the op-ed piece, Jerry Sandusky received a 30 year minimum sentence for plural rape of boys.
We ask President Obama to investigate these claims, and, if factual, either pardon Chris Williams or explain why he believes the sentence is appropriate.
