Kwame M. Kilpatrick was elected the youngest Mayor in the City of Detroit in 2001. He was vilified in The Detroit News Media for what many believe were racially motivated reasons.
During a Whistleblower trial concerning an affair, Mr. Kilpatrick committed perjury and was forced to resign from office. After vowing to make a comeback, he was investigated further and found guilty on 24 charges of Bribery & Racketeering and sentenced to 28 years.
Although there was no physical evidence linking Mr. Kilpatrick to the alleged crimes, he was convicted with testimony from other Defendants facing prison time themselves. Mr. Kilpatrick was also forced to retain an attorney although there was a conflict of interest. The Judge even exceeded the sentencing guidelines. Help us bring Kwame home!
