In May 1989, a nearsighted librarian wrongfully accused Jason of smoking cigarettes on school grounds in Southbridge, MA. She alleged that she saw him despite being 250 feet away.
Jason was standing with other students awaiting the bus. He was NOT smoking. (Being a Catholic school student, he was probably praying or engaged in other wholesome activities.)
A nearby classmate (wearing the sweater described by the librarian) admitted to being the smoker. Bystanders argued in Jason's defense, but the librarian was unrelenting in her zeal to punish this trembling, innocent schoolboy.
Jason received detentions and his parents were upset. He still has trouble trusting librarians and the dewey decimal system makes him nauseous.
