Kwame M. Kilpatrick was elected the youngest Mayor in the City of Detroit in 2001. He was vilified in The Detroit News Media daily for what many believe were racially motivated reasons.
During a Whistleblower trial concerning an affair, Mr. Kilpatrick committed perjury and was forced to resign from office. After vowing to make a comeback, he was investigated by the Feds and found guilty on 24 charges of Bribery & Racketeering and sentenced to 28 years. His friend Bobby Ferguson, a Contractor, was given 21 years.
Although there was no physical evidence linking both men to the alleged crimes, they were convicted with testimony from other Defendants facing prison time themselves. Mr. Kilpatrick was also forced to retain an attorney although there was a conflict of interest.
