Marissa Alexander, an African-American mother of three, fired warning shots as she feared for her life when her abusive ex husband (whom had a restraining order to stay away from her & was unlawfully in her presence) began arguing with her. The shots did not injure nor kill anyone. She was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and in 2012 was sentenced to 20 years in prison due to a Florida law that requires a minimum sentence for using a gun unlawfully.
Although she claimed self defense and invoked Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law she was found guilty. Per the ruling of State of Florida v. Zimmerman, where the same law was invoked, We demand her pardon for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as she was rightfully defending herself.
