Ross Ulbricht was sentenced the other day on several charges related to the operation of the website Silk Road. People had been using Ulbricht's website to buy and sell drugs. Ulbricht did not personally engage in any of the transactions, and yet he was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole. This is an egregious sentence. Drug dealers engaging in dangerous activities on the streets and some people who have been found guilty of crimes like murder, rape, and treason have gotten less severe sentences. Ulbricht should be pardoned or at least have his sentence commuted because it can safely be said that the punishment is in no way appropriate to the crime.
