We, the undersigned, appeal to your true sense of mercy, fairness, and humanity.
Shalom Rubashkin, a husband, father, and community leader, was sentenced to 27 years in prison for falsifying income reports in order to procure a business loan, which was in fact repaid. Due to charges of labor violations which were dropped and eventually expunged, his meat-production facility in Iowa was forced to close before all interest payments could be made.
Now, a man with no prior criminal record, no history of violence or any previous run-ins with the law, sits in jail, his family bereft of a husband and father.
NOW WE APPEAL NOT TO RETRY FOR JUDICIAL MISCONDUCT, BUT TO YOU, MR. PRESIDENT, TO ISSUE A FULL PARDON AND RETURN THIS MAN TO HIS FAMILY.
