Democrat or Republican, we all want to see our elections conducted in the spirit of largesse and fair play. Our national elections should be contests of political ideologies, not popularity contests or smear campaigns. Although never convicted, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has become indelibly linked in the public consciousness with a rash of murders that galled California and Nevada in the late 1960s.
As the public discusses the bevy of evidence linking the senator to these murders, he can hardly be expected to conduct his campaign with full freedom of focus.
In the interest of good faith, we ask President Obama to pardon Ted Cruz for his commission of the so-called "Zodiac" killings. Our political process must remain focused on policy, not on one candidate's youthful indiscretions.
