We, the signers of this petition, request that President Obama issue a Presidential Pardon for Tim DeChristopher. Mr. DeChristopher was found guilty of violating the "Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Leasing Reform Act" by disrupting a controversial (possibly illegal) auction of federal land. His crime? Placing invalid bids (because he had no money to pay), thus driving up the bids for oil industry bidders.
Mr. DeChristopher is an environmental activist who put his own freedom at risk to protect wildlife and the environment from destruction by the oil industry. This was an act of civil disobedience, worthy of a slap on the wrist, not federal prison!
Please pardon Mr. DeChristopher and release him from custody. Please also remove the felony from his record so he can find gainful employment.
