Tonya McDowell is a homeless mother who lived in her van in Bridgeport, CT and sentenced to 12 years in prison for enrolling her son into a better school in nearby Norwalk, CT. Her crime is "stealing" $15,686 worth of free educational services from the city of Norwalk. This petition is to demand pressure from President Obama on the State of Connecticut to release and forgive Tonya McDowell, if the law does not permit the President to pardon her himself. Throwing a woman in jail who is hard up and trying to raise a child to be better off tomorrow than she is today in an increasingly difficult America is in no way, shape or form going to help her or her son. Not to mention that CT will pay way more than $15k to keep her in jail for 12 years. It's stupid and it's wrong.
