In 1994 Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelly were wrongly convicted of the murders of three 2nd graders, Steven Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers, in West Memphis, Arkansas. After spending 18 years in prison the three men were released, after agreeing to an Alford Plea, even though DNA excluded them. The plea is designed to protect the state from any lawsuits. While protecting the state it still names the three innocent men as the killers, and in the eyes of West Memphis Police Department and the Prosecutors they still are. Dropping these men from the case could force the police and prosecution to investigate and hopefully find who really did this.
