There is going to be a Science Debate 2012 - a debate for all of the presidential and congressional candidates to talk about the issues in science that most deeply affect policy.
Scientific insight has a lot to say about how policy ought to operate in reference to our common goals as a nation. Sociology. The hard sciences (physics, chem and bio). Ecology. Psychology. Scientific methods are used in economics via game theory. The act of observation, analysis, model-building, and model-testing is key in our search for the knowledge that must inform policy.
We want to know how science influences Mr. Obama's policy decisions, as well as the other candidates. The President's participation in these debates will send a clear signal to his opponents, that these issues matter to the people.
