By signing this petition I hereby ask that politicians work to pass new and more stringent gun control regulations, including any or all of the following:
1) ban on sale of ALL assault weapons (such as the AR-15 assault rifle used in the Colorado theater murders)
2) stricter licensing requirements such as background checks, mental evaluations, safety courses, and waiting periods for ALL gun purchases
3) create and promote gun buy-back programs, partially funded by increased taxes on new firearm purchases
In one year, only 39 people were murdered by guns in England, and only 200 in Canada, compared to over 12,000 in the U.S. The recent massacre in Colorado is only the latest in a trend that will continue until gun control laws are revised.
