The age for legal consumption of alcohol is eighteen, or even under in many developed countries, including much of Europe and South America. Alcohol is consumed illegally by underage Americans, yet people of the same age in other countries can drink legally. It is unreasonable that a person can go to war at the age of eighteen to fight for the country, but are not allowed to consume an alcoholic beverage. Laws should be changed to allow the consumption of alcohol by all Americans over the age of eighteen. However, there should be provisions which will have stricter laws against driving while intoxicated, focusing on people under the age of twenty-one. If proper action is taken, alcohol consumption could be allowed, but controlled, resulting in less accidents involving illegal consumption.
