Here in the United States, thousands of citizens, many of them children, die in hospital beds waiting for organ donations. All the while, countless deceased take with them to their grave possibly the greatest gift they could give a child or individual in need: a healthy heart, a functioning liver, or other working organ.
By changing the default organ donor status to "opt in," we could save and extend thousands of lives, reduce countless dollars in healthcare costs, reduce suffering, and improve patient's health nationwide.
I officially petition the White House to enact legislation that would set the default status of healthy Americans to "opted in" in regards to their organ donor status.
