The consequences of any U.S. president and/or his or her immediately family holding business assets with values that can fluctuate based on policy decision can have extremely determental consequences for both the US citizenry and the global community. Presidents should be held to a high standard of avoiding potential corruption and/or conflicts of interest. If the person in the Oval Office has literally no idea what he or she is invested in, that president won’t – and can’t – make policy decisions based on the potential effects on his or her personal finances.
Any president should be required to put all of his or her assets in a blind trust within 6 months of taking the office. (Legal definition of a blind trust: placing finances under the management of an independent third party.)
