In an attempt to like the vegetable "corn" on Facebook, Contra Magazine discovered that there is no such Facebook page for Corn. The United States is by far the largest producer of corn in the the world, corn being a native grain of the Americas and integral to the economies of the Heartland. For economic, nutritional, and sentimental reasons, Corn is truly America's Vegetable, the scene-stealing lead in features such as polenta, corn bread, corn muffins, corn on the cob, popcorn, and all sorts of casseroles. Great American corn heroes such as Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) have ignored this offense, focusing instead giving corn farmers money. What about the corn itself?
Corn kept the pilgrims alive during Thanksgiving. It is time we returned the favor.
