Backround checks are not enough. The US needs comprehensive gun control legislation similar to that passed in Australia almost 20 years ago. Guns escalate violence. On average, 31 Americans are murdered with guns every day and 151 are treated for a gun assault in an emergency room. The U.S.'s annual gun homicide rate of 2.97 fatalities per 100,000 people is triple the rate seen in most of the world's other wealthy nations. We are not leading, we are failing our citizens. We need to tune out the shrieking, well funded, and dangerous voice of the NRA and pass comprehensive firearm legislation. Lead the fight for common sense gun control legislation that goes well beyond additional background checks.
