Considering that Google, Sonic.net, EBP and others can offer 1 Gbps internet for prices near $70 a month, something should be done to help other companies in a monoply/duopoly location understand the need to improve their service.
I would like to see such help be a law that says by the year 2020 a residential ISP can not charge more than $1 per 1 Mbps of internet bandwidth, based on whichever upload/download speed is slowest.
Perhaps this would cause most of the local ISPs to suddenly figure out how to offer 50+ Mbps symmetrical connections where they've only been able to offer 768K upload speeds for the last decade.
