The Federal government needs to pass laws that require places like malls, water parks, state-owned properties and restaurants provide 'family rooms' (seperate from bathrooms) to nursing mothers, regardless if the mothers are employed by the establishment owner or not.
President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Reconciliation Act of 2010 to grant employees breaks at work to express milk in a safe place other than a bathroom.
But there are NO Federal laws presently that protect the right for a woman to breastfeed her child in privately owned establishments which are open to the public if she does not work there.
These mothers are at risk of harassment and arrest by police for trespassing if she refuses to leave when asked. This must be changed!
