Pass legislation allowing for expungement of criminal records stemming from Federal convictions.

Created by J.S. on August 15, 2014

There currently exists no federal law providing for expungement of federal convictions. Such laws exist at the state level in many states. Someone with a single mistake on federal record, from long ago, and who has lived a decent, honest life since, has no mechanism guaranteeing removal of these old records. Such records can haunt people forever, when applying for jobs and other opportunities.

Bills have been introduced several times (often by Charlie Rangel) for such legislation, but the bills never come out of "committee".

Please allow honest, decent people who have truly repented for a mistake in their past to clear their record and get on with their lives. This would NOT protect or help TRUE criminals in any way.
