The financial cost of fines for minor traffic violations (i.e. speeding tickets, parking violations, etc.) can be a huge burden on United States citizens. I propose legislation giving the option to either pay the traffic violation, or to “work-off” the fine by doing an equivalent amount of community service after submitting a guilty plea. I believe that this will still dissuade violations while giving citizens an option that will not result in financial hardships.
The hours attributed to community service will have to be signed for and approved by the supervisor of the program or organization. The participants will receive ten dollars off their violation for every one hour of community service and full payment of the violation shall be completed within a specified time.
