When applying for a job, white applicants are much more likely to receive a response than African-American applicants. This, along with the already higher poverty level for African-American citizens, creates a society monetarily stacked against the largest racial minority in the United States. But like most problems, it has a solution: Most racial bias (when hiring) is based on identity. That is, the person’s name is hindering them more than their work experience is benefiting them. This can be fixed quite simply: Anonymous applications. An anonymous application process would eliminate any name-based racial bias, and give people of racial and ethnic minorities the equal chance they deserve.
