Recently a student at a private school in Massachusetts was denied permission to bring his boyfriend as his date to prom. This sparked a huge uproar within the student body and an online petition to protest the issue. The petition on signon.org is still collecting signatures and has not yet been brought to the attention of the administration.
Although it is likely that legislation will not be able to effect such institutions as private schools, it is still not right for public school students to experience such blatant prejudice. Especially when schools such as McQuaid Jesuit High School in New York have already started accepting same-sex couples into their communities.
