Gun control is an issue which has needed action from Congress the moment an American was killed by another when not in an act of self-defense. The idea that guns are absolutely necessary to the citizens of the United States to prevent their government from being tyrannical is an argument which has lost credibility due to precedence. Looking at the UK, Japan, Australia, and many other nations which have taken the very advanced step of eliminating their citizens' right to bear arms, they have drastically reduced their homicide rates without their governments being tyrannical. Eliminating the second amendment will be impossible, but when 90% of Americans favor at least some form of background checks as regulation, there is no reason for the government to fulfill the interests of the people
