Pass smarter sentencing in federal non- violent drug cases. To ease mandatory minimums and their draconian sentences.

Created by J.R. on February 02, 2014

We spend over a billion dollars on federal prisoners, money that could be well used in education and rehabilitation. We Americans have more incarcerated individuals than ALL other countries combined. This is predominately due to our outdated and irresponsible mandatory minimum sentences attached to drugs and their amounts. I am not for being soft on crime, violent offenders as well as offenders who are known members of drug cartels and gangs deserve these sentences. However the way it is set up now, it's too broad and gives draconian sentences to non- violent, first time drug offenders. We need to stop the bleeding of our monies and packing of our prisons with those who meet this requirement. Smarter sentencing alternatives need to be put in place of mandatory minimums
