Drug overdose deaths have increased at an alarming rate in the past decade. In August of 2012, The Stop Overdose Stat (SOS) Act, HR 6311 was introduced into the House of Representatives. In part, this bill would allow for broader distribution of a medication called naloxone, an antidote to opioid drug overdoses, including prescription pain medications and heroin. A broader distribution of naloxone, beyond public health officials would save lives and could be integrated into a comprehensive approach towards drug reform. Where there is life, there is hope.
