This petition asks the president to dust off the plans for thorium reactors, advise the department of energy to research converting the US energy system to thorium, and attempt to remove any regulatory or legal roadblocks that may exist for the thorium reactor industry. The United States crated the technology needed to power the country for thousands of years and has the resources to do it as well, yet the technology has been lost to time, politics, and fears of nuclear energy. Not only is thorium a carbon free energy source, it produces a fraction of the nuclear waste of uranium, is meltdown-free, and can even neutralize current nuclear waste stockpiles while producing clean energy. Use American technology to lead us into the future!
