The inmates of the Alabama Department of Corrections are engaging in a peaceful, nonviolent protest in the form of a work stoppage/strike until their issues are addressed. Such issues are as follows:
• Overcrowding
• Inhumane living conditions
• Overhaul of parole board
• Legislation for life without parole
• Taxing inmate with fees and fines while prohibiting inmates from being compensated
• Subpar medical care
• Sanitary kitchen & food preparation
• Police brutality
• Industry workers to deserve the pay their entitle to (Statue 14-7-22)
• All institutional workers to be compensated for their labor
• Inadequate law library
• Rodents/Pests in the kitchen area
• No heat in dorms
