These officials are here to do a service to their county just like a member of the military therefore they should receive the same pay and benifits as the military, if not less, because lets face it they aren't putting there life on the line like our men and women in uniform are. Do they really deserve a retirement plan for 4 or even 2 years office? I think that is a joke we need to fix the way this is set up, you need to stop threatening to cut off social security and other funds when congress doesn't act try cutting them off.
