Elected officials work a part-time job that requires no college degree, and struggle to keep up with the requirements of their jobs. The government is in perpetual debt and regularly looks to cut costs. Serving this country as a lawmaker is an honor and a privilege, and given the opportunities it presents there is no reason for lawmakers to be making six figures a year while their constituents struggle.
