The sacrifice our military service members make to our country deserves increased compensation. I feel we need to first make sure that our defense budget not only is enough to support our readiness for the event of conflict but also pay the troops fairly for giving up their lives; either by the ultimate sacrifice or their time in service. Most of our troops join just out of high school giving up their chance to going to a traditional 4 year university and being able to be full time students. This is a huge set back for them, even to those who return to school during or after the military. I also propose that in order to increase the money that they take home rather than increasing their pay we create tax legislation exempting the military from certain taxes either partially or completely.
