The average politician earns 5 times more than the people who they represent and who pay their salary. Those same politicians have multi million dollar retirement packages after only working as a politician for a full year, while the people who are paying for those benefits are or will be struggling to get by on Social Security.
If politicians where paid the average wage of the people they represented, this would help cut down the national defecit by cutting the money spent on salaries and benefits. It would also help the economy and employment rate, because in order to make more money, the politicians would need to bring in jobs to their constituents that pay livable wages and good benefits.
