The pay raise is very important because with the violence in our time, I believe it will start to impact the attendance numbers in police academies. Lower attendance rates will equal less officers to cover crime on our streets. With less officers, the crime rate is going to have a dramatic increase.
Currently you can get paid more for working at a deli or convenience store than putting your life on the line every time you put on a uniform. With so much competition in pay, more and more potential peace officers are taking jobs at plants and other places. Some officers are even "hanging up the badge" because their salary alone is not enough to support their families.
By simply raising the pay scale, we can give these officers what they deserve for protecting our public.
