The US continues to suffer economic and politically from difficulties caused by the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending and to address foreign affairs with any degree of expertise.
With so many people on government aid, the possibility for the people of our country to make decisions that aren"t tied to "self" are impossible. When a president gets 60M votes and there are 47M on food stamps, that says it all. In response tht that, working class Americans don't want to support those on aid who are part of the entitlement crowd who are continually encouraged to remain as such.
The United States of America can each do better on their own at this point.
