As there appears to be deep and irreconcilable differences in philosophies regarding the role of government, the apportionment of taxation, the distribution of revenue, and the rights of citizens of a free state, we hereby ask that Cook County be separated from the rest of Illinois in accordance with these differing beliefs.
There is a legal and historical precedent for this action as the state of West Virginia was separated from the state of Virginia, on 20 June 1863.
