Charleston, SC, the first city to be affected by the US Civil War, continues to suffer difficulties stemming from the lack of civil, religious, and political freedoms imposed upon the Charleston metro area by less liberally minded South Carolinians. It is entirely feasible for the Charleston area to operate as its own city-state, within the United States, in the event that SC were successful in the current bid to secede. It is important for Charleston to remain in the Union as to do so would protect its citizens' standard of living as well as protect our sterling reputation as a fabulous tourism destination and true representative of the Old South.
We would also like to include the rest of the Charleston metro area, including North Charleston, Summerville, James Island, and Mount Pleasant
