With this petition, Long Island would secede from the state of New York to become its own sovereign state in the United States, with Brooklyn being its capital city. Long Islanders would enjoy freedom from the heavy tax burden placed on them currently in New York, and would also be able to shift the budget towards their own infrastructure and school system. Long Island would have two senators, 9 house seats, and 11 electors in the electoral college. Long Island's economy would be mostly made up of small businesses and revenue through taxes from Brooklyn and other large communities. This secession from statehood and admission as a 51st state of the USA would only be beneficial to both the country and to Long Island itself.
