There comes a time when we as a South Texas people, as a Tejano culture, as a once disputed region, must look toward a future where we part from the whole and form our own State, a State rich with culture and proud of its heritage, a State where both the English and Spanish languages are practiced and encouraged, a State that welcomes its immigrant cousins with open arms, a State that does not question the citizenship of its people based on the color of their skin, or accent in their voice, or love for their culture. Therefore I propose that we divorce ourselves from the State of Texas and form our own State of South Texas, from the Nueces River on the north to the Rio Grande in the south, to the gulf of Mexico in the east, and toward Eagle Pass in the west. Let us add a fifty first star
