pensions should be guaranteed. it should not be possible for a company to restructure or declare bankruptcy and not honor the promise it made to their employees. it is wrong to take a persons retirement savings, that was contracted to them, as part of their compensation package. there needs to be some kind of govt regulations or requirements to hold these companies accountable. since it is part of compensation and it should be illegal for any company to not honor its promise to retirees. it seems to me regardless of your politics we should all agree to this. it is sad to see people who worked their whole life have their company not honor their commitment. oversight of the companies pension fund by independant accountants could help assure it is adaquate.
